DRAG  CHAINS  &  CHAIN  CONVEYORS

Chain Conveyors

WTW's design and applications work with Drag Chains has produced the most reliable system available for its use in any industry. Our patented cleaning systems, rugged flights and pin arrangement ensure years of trouble free operations. With specific designs, sticky materials such as synthetic gypsum or sludge are easily conveyed. WTW drag chains even operate vertical. This provides the user an alternative to high maintenance bucket elevators.  Available in dust, gas or pressure tight designs, WTW Drag Chains are self cleaning systems.
They can be used for:
  • Conveying
  • Distributing
  • Feeding
  • Extracting
  • Dewatering
  • Screening
  • Cooling
  • Dosing - volumetric dosing by adjusting the
    material height
  • Regulating discharge gates - varying chain
    speed

The components to the drag chain system are:

  • Drive Station
  • Tension Station
  • Trough
  • Chain

Drive Station

The drive station is furnished fully assembled and consists of a welded steel housing of dust-tight construction with removable access covers for inspection. The drive sprockets are segmented, with surface hardening in the areas of abrasive contact. The shafts and bearings are engineered according to the application design such as inclination, material to convey, and discharge rate. The drive station contains a pivoting chain cleaner with externally mounted bearings and pillow blocks.

Tension Station

The tension station is furnished fully assembled and consists of a welded steel housing of dust-tight construction with removable access covers for inspection. The tension sprockets are a segmented design to facilitate easy replacement
without disassembly of the tensioning shaft. The sprocket teeth are surface hardened in the areas of abrasive contact. The bearings are mounted externally. The entire station is sealed using sealing membranes and stuffing boxes while allowing take-up movement by the conical spiral springs. Tension indicators, and safety limit switches are installed for bilateral protection against chain overload.

Trough

The troughs are made of mild steel with covers and heavy duty connection flanges for connection to each other and to the terminal stations. Replaceable wear and guide rail are provided for the conveying and returning strands. The trough can also be fitted with water jackets to cool any material it may be conveying.

Chain

WTW Drag chains contain flights which are connected to forked chain links by means of  pre-formed flight pins that permit flight replacement while the chain remains endless. The forked links are drop-forged and inductively hardened. They're joined by a case hardened connecting pin and pre-bent cotter pins. All chain components are furnished partially assembled and shipped separately.

Drive Assembly

Drag Chain Drive assemblies are available in a variety of designs and arrangements based on the application:
  • Hollow shaft gear motor
  • Hollow shaft reducer with coupling and electric motor
  • Hollow shaft reducer with fluid coupling and electric motor
  • Chain drive with parallel gear box and electric motor
  • Chain drive with parallel gear box, fluid coupling and electric motor
  • Coupling and parallel gearbox with electric motor
  • Fluid coupling and parallel gearbox with electric motor
  • Hydraulic/electric control system. Chain speed is adjustable to the discharge quantity
